The Wise Man Maduro — Corona
82 out of 100. My Score: the CigarSolace Scale
A cigar I respected more than I enjoyed.
The Experience
A cigar I respected more than I enjoyed.
The Mexican San Andrés wrapper was easily the highlight, bringing dark cacao, roasted coffee, earth and the depth I normally enjoy in a Maduro. But as the cigar developed, persistent bitterness from the blend began to take over.
The issue wasn’t strength or pepper. What I missed was the natural sweetness, creaminess and roundness needed to balance such a dark profile. The result felt increasingly dry and bitter rather than rich and indulgent.
Construction, however, was very good — consistent draw, even burn, solid ash and plenty of smoke.
Final Thoughts
“This is an important reminder of how personal cigars can be. For smokers who enjoy earthy, dry, roasted and more bitter-forward Maduros, there may be plenty here to appreciate. For my palate, it simply wasn’t the right expression of San Andrés.”
