This vitola showed me a better expression of El Cigarreño’s Maduro Oscuro. Compared with the Robusto Box Pressed, I found it more concentrated, flavorful and better integrated.
Dark chocolate, cacao and espresso led the profile, joined by clean dark earth, roasted coffee and toasted nuts. A molasses-like sweetness rounded everything out, while the pepper remained controlled and well integrated.
The figurado format seemed to concentrate the smoke beautifully, especially early on, giving the blend greater definition without making it aggressive.
Construction was excellent: consistent draw, steady burn, firm ash and plenty of smoke.
