Honduras now has a cigar festival of its own. The Consejo de Artesanos del Tabaco de Honduras, the association of the country’s cigar makers, is holding La Gran Cata 2027 for the first time, and registration is open.
Like the festivals of the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, it mixes factory visits with other activities and a themed dinner every night. It starts on Saturday, January 23, in Tegucigalpa, the capital. On Sunday there is a dinner that President Nasry Asfura will attend. On Monday the group drives east to Danlí, where most of the Honduran cigar industry is based, for two days of factory visits and a White Party. Guests leave on Wednesday, January 27.
Registration is $2,500 per person, or $4,000 for a married couple sharing a room. That covers activities, lodging, ground transportation, lunches, dinners and cigars, but not airfare.
Taking part are CLE Cigar Co., Gran Habano, JRE Tobacco Co., Maya Selva Cigars, My Father Cigars, Oliva, Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co., Plasencia, Raíces Cubanas, Rocky Patel and Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
The dates were set to work with Puro Sabor 2027 in Nicaragua. At the end, guests can return to Tegucigalpa or cross the border to join Puro Sabor. They would miss its first days in Managua but should catch most of its time in Estelí.
