About Punch

Punch was first registered in 1840 by a German named Stockmann, and its name comes from Mr. Punch, the character of European puppet shows. In 1884 Manuel López Fernández bought it, and his name still appears on its bands and boxes. In 1930 it passed to Fernández, Palicio y Cía.

After the revolution the Cuban Punch kept being made on the island and is still a popular Habanos line. Fernando Palicio went to Florida and sold his brands to Frank Llaneza and Dan Blumenthal of Villazon & Co., who made Punch with Honduran tobacco for the American market. Today General Cigar makes the non-Cuban Punch in Honduras.

The Punch Diablo, presented in July 2018, was the strongest Punch to that date and the first line extension not made at General Cigar's Honduran factory: it is rolled in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernández, with an Ecuadorian Sumatra oscuro wrapper, a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan and Honduran filler.

I have two Punch notes. The Diablo surprised me with how refined it was and scored 89.
