About Macanudo
Macanudo is a Hispanic word for something excellent, and the name has a long road behind it. It first appeared on a cigar made in Guatemala by the makers of the Cuban Punch, and later belonged to the Temple Hall factory in Jamaica. In the sixties Culbro and General Cigar bought that factory, and in 1971 General Cigar introduced the Macanudo brand as we know it.
Its signature is the Connecticut shade wrapper, the light café that gives it the mild flavor it is known for, although there is also a darker maduro. By the early nineties it was the best-selling premium cigar in the United States. In October 2000 production moved to the Dominican Republic.
I have two Macanudo notes: the Café Hyde Park, the classic of the house, and the Inspirado White.
