Plasencia's Year of the Goat Cigar Arrives in December, Made in Honduras for the First Time
El Año de la Cabra, the seventh Lunar New Year cigar from Plasencia, is a 6 1/4 x 60 perfecto rolled in Danlí, Honduras, with 6,000 boxes of 10 shipping in early December.
Plasencia has formally announced El Año de la Cabra, its cigar for the Year of the Goat, after showing it last month. The company expects it to ship in early December, ahead of the Chinese New Year on February 6, 2027.
This is the seventh year in a row that Plasencia has released a cigar for the Lunar New Year, and it brings one notable change: it is the first in the series made in Honduras. Every earlier edition was rolled at the family’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. This one comes from Tabacos de Oriente, the Plasencia factory in Danlí.
There is a single vitola, a 6 1/4 x 60 perfecto. The wrapper is Honduran, grown in Azacualpa, and the binder comes from Honduras’ Jamastrán Valley. The fillers mix Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco, including leaf from the family’s organic program in Estelí.
Production is 6,000 boxes of 10 cigars, or 60,000 cigars in total. As in past years, the packaging leans on red and gold: a red lacquered box with patterns inspired by a goat’s horns. Each box includes individual gift sleeves, a nod to the red envelopes given at Chinese New Year.
Néstor Andrés Plasencia, the fifth generation of the family, tied the goat’s patience and balance to the way the family has worked with tobacco for more than 160 years. No price has been announced yet.
