Loaisiga Cigars, from Estelí, Nicaragua, is launching El Cadejo, a new line named for one of Central America’s best-known folk legends: two spirit dogs that appear to travelers on lonely roads at night. In the story, the white one protects and the black one comes from the shadows.
The line follows the legend with two blends, both Nicaraguan puros:
- White Cadejo, “The Guide”: a sun-grown habano wrapper and binder from Jalapa, with filler from Estelí, Condega and Pueblo Nuevo. The company calls it medium in strength, with cedar, almond and sweetness.
- Black Cadejo, “The Guardian”: a habano maduro wrapper, an Estelí binder and filler from Condega, Estelí and Pueblo Nuevo. The company calls it full in strength, with roasted coffee, cocoa and pepper.
Both come in the same four sizes, from a 3 1/2 x 52 short robusto to a 6 x 60 toro gordo, in boxes of 20, at $9 to $12 per cigar.
“Every Nicaraguan grows up hearing about the Cadejo,” said Silvio Loaisiga, the company’s general manager and co-owner. Florida stores get the cigars first, in November, with no exact date yet. Other U.S. states follow in January 2027, and stores outside the U.S. in April.
