Drew Estate Puts Ten Blends in the Feral Flying Pig Shape, Plus a Box-Pressed Flying Pig
A $170 sampler brings ten Drew Estate blends in the 5 3/8 x 60 Feral Flying Pig, and Undercrown El Tigre Dominicano gets what looks like the first box-pressed Flying Pig.
The Flying Pig, the short, fat cigar with a pigtail cap, is one of Drew Estate’s best-known shapes. Two new limited releases add nearly ten new versions of it at once.
The first is the Feral Flying Pig Collection, a box with ten different blends, all in the 5 3/8 x 60 Feral Flying Pig size. Only two of them had been sold in that shape before, the Liga Privada Único Serie and the Liga Privada H99. The rest are new in this size:
- Herrera Estelí Brazil and Herrera Estelí Habano
- Nica Rustica Shade and Nica Rustica Adobe
- Liga Privada Único Serie, T52 and H99 Connecticut Corojo
- Undercrown Shade, Undercrown 10 and Undercrown El Tigre Dominicano
The suggested price is $170 per box.
The second release is the Undercrown El Tigre Dominicano Flying Pig, in the shorter 3 15/16 x 60 Flying Pig size. It is box-pressed, which seems to be a first for a Flying Pig. It comes in boxes of 12 at $15.70 per cigar. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper, a Connecticut Corojo H99 hybrid binder grown in the U.S., and Dominican Criollo 98 and HVA filler. It is made in Nicaragua for now, but Drew Estate plans to move the line to the Dominican factory it expects to open next year.
Drew Estate calls both items limited but has not said how many were made. Both are still waiting for approval to be sold in California.
