About Villiger

Villiger is a Swiss family house with more than a century of history. Jean Villiger founded a small tobacco factory in Pfeffikon in 1888. He died early in 1902, and his wife, Louise, ran the business while their children were still young; in 1910 she opened the first subsidiary, in Tiengen, Germany. In the early twenties their sons Max and Hans took over and turned it into a multinational brand.

Heinrich Villiger led the company from 1989 until his death in 2025, at 95. Today Villiger has factories in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Germany and Switzerland, about 1,200 employees, and since 2016 its own North American office in Doral, Florida. In 2021 it opened a new factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Exclusivo U.S.A. is its line made especially for the American market. The first came out in 2020, made at Ernesto Pérez-Carrillo's Tabacalera La Alianza; the 2022 edition, a Nicaraguan puro with a habano rosado wrapper, was made at La Zona in Estelí.

My note is the Exclusivo U.S.A. Gordo, a Nicaraguan cigar with excellent balance, at 88 points.
