About Meerapfel
The Meerapfel family has been in tobacco for centuries. According to family history, their ancestors traded tobacco between the New World and the Old in the 16th century, and in 1876 they opened their first cigar factory in Karlsruhe, Germany. Jeremiah Meerapfel's grandfather became the largest exporter of Cuban tobacco of his time, until the 1959 revolution ended that business.
The family is best known for Cameroon wrapper. In the 1990s Richard Meerapfel, Jeremiah's father, bought the French government's tobacco monopoly there, and their company, CETAC, produces Cameroon tobacco. Today Jeremiah and his brother Joshua lead the house.
La Estancia was born as an alternative to the Cuban cigar: a Nicaraguan wrapper over filler from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua, made at an undisclosed factory in Honduras. My note is the La Estancia Robusto, silky and refined, one of my highest scores at 94 points.
