About Ashton

Ashton was born behind the counter of a cigar shop. Robert Levin started at age 11 sweeping floors at Holt's Cigar Store, his father's shop in Philadelphia, and joined the business full time in 1972. In 1980 he bought another Philadelphia store, Harry A. Tint & Sons, and shortly after he created the Ashton brand.

In the late eighties the Fuente family took over Ashton's production in the Dominican Republic, and the brand grew with lines such as the Aged Maduro, the Cabinet and the Virgin Sun Grown, better known as VSG. Levin also created La Aroma de Cuba in 2003 and San Cristóbal in 2007, and San Cristóbal is made in Nicaragua by the García family of My Father. In 2012 Cigar Aficionado inducted him into its Hall of Fame.

I have two Ashton notes. The VSG Sorcerer scored 91.
