About Aganorsa Leaf
Before tobacco, Eduardo Fernández had a different life. Born in Havana, he moved to the United States as a boy, graduated from Wharton, worked in banking in New York and co-founded the Telepizza chain in Spain with his brother. In 1997 he founded Agrícola Ganadera Norteña S.A., Aganorsa, and bought land mostly in Jalapa, with a smaller plot in Condega.
In 2002 he bought Tropical Tobacco, around 2004 Oliva Tobacco of Tampa began buying his leaf, and for years he worked with José "Pepín" García, until they parted ways in 2011. That same year the Casa Fernández Miami Toro was No. 12 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25. By 2012 Aganorsa was a major force in Nicaraguan tobacco, planting about 1,200 acres a year with Cuban seed.
In 2018 the cigar division changed its name from Casa Fernández to Aganorsa Leaf, so the brand would carry the name of the family's tobacco.
My note is the Nica Libre by Aganorsa Leaf Toro, which scored 89.
